There are many ways to celebrate Independence Day in Indonesia.
Some people raise the flag.
Some gather with their neighborhoods.
Some watch the ceremonies.
And then there are the ones who spend the day trying to balance a marble on a spoon, race ping-pong balls onto an egg crate, dance their way into a café, or desperately try to stop a stopwatch at exactly 10 seconds.
At Lucid Cafe Bali, we decided to celebrate 17 August the way we love it most — together, with plenty of laughter, a little competition, and rewards along the way.
From 1–17 August 2026, Lucid turned its Independence Day celebration into a series of simple games and special offers, leading up to the big finale on Indonesia’s Independence Day itself.
And just like the spirit behind many Indonesian Independence Day celebrations, it wasn’t really about who won.
It was about getting people together.
Of course… winning was still pretty fun. 😄
💃 Walk-In Dancing: You Don’t Need a Dance Floor
We brought this one back from last year because, honestly, why fix something that already makes people smile?
The concept was simple:
Want to enter Lucid? Dance your way in.
Anyone could show off their best moves before stepping inside — whether that meant a proper dance routine, a spontaneous two-step, or simply moving with enough confidence to make everyone around them laugh.
In return, lucky dancers could receive a free classic regular cup of coffee, either hot or cold.
Throughout 1–17 August, Lucid prepared up to 5 free coffees per day for the best dancing entrances.
And on Independence Day itself?
We doubled it.
10 free coffees were up for grabs on 17 August.
Because if there’s one thing Indonesia’s Independence Day teaches us, it’s that there’s always room for a little more celebration.
⏱️ Stop at 10:00: The Game Nobody Has Cracked
Some games are easy.
Some games look easy.
And then there is Stop at 10:00.
All customers needed to do was exchange their purchase bill for one chance to play.
Start the stopwatch.
Wait.
And stop it at exactly:
10.00 seconds.
Sounds simple, right?
Not quite.
The reward was worth the pressure: anyone who successfully landed exactly on 10 seconds could claim one free dish of their choice.
The catch?
Well…
Nobody has managed to win it since last year.
Yes. Nobody.
We’ve seen confidence.
We’ve seen intense concentration.
We’ve seen people absolutely convinced they have the perfect timing.
And then…
10.01.
Or 9.97.
Or 10.08.
So, despite countless attempts, the Stop at 10:00 challenge remains undefeated.
For now.
Perhaps next year’s Independence Day will finally produce the legendary winner we’ve been waiting for.
🇮🇩 17% OFF: Because 17 Belongs to 17 August
Sometimes the celebration doesn’t need to be complicated.
From 15–17 August 2026, Lucid offered 17% off all foods and drinks as a simple nod to the date that means so much to Indonesia.
There was no limit.
No need to choose only one dish.
No need to visit just once.
If you wanted to enjoy another meal, another coffee, or come back with someone else during the period, the 17% discount was there.
The only exclusions were artisan sourdough, pastries, cakes, and cookies.
Three days.
One number.
One very Indonesian reason to celebrate.
17% for 17 August.
🏓 PingPong Ball on Egg Crate: Things Got Competitive
Now this one was new.
And perhaps we should have known that introducing a brand-new competition on Independence Day itself would create a little chaos.
The challenge?
Two customers compete against each other.
Each player gets three ping-pong balls and an egg crate.
The mission is to get all three balls onto the crate in either a horizontal or vertical line.
The fastest person wins.
And the reward?
One free main dish of their choice.
But there was a catch.
Only 5 winners could claim the reward.
Which meant every round suddenly became very serious.
People watched.
People cheered.
People tried to figure out their strategy.
And once the game started, there wasn’t much time for strategy anyway.
Just:
BALL. BALL. BALL.
And hopefully a winning line.
Five winners only.
That little restriction turned a very simple game into one of the most competitive moments of the day.
👨👩👧👦 Before Opening: The Lucid Family Had Their Own Independence Day
While our customers were busy competing throughout the celebration, there was another Independence Day happening behind the scenes.
This year, the Lucid Family continued a tradition that is becoming just as important to us:
celebrating together before the café opens.
For almost two hours, our team put work aside and became competitors.
And yes…
It got competitive.
🥄 Marble Spoon Race
A marble.
A spoon.
And absolutely no hands allowed.
The goal was to carry the marble to the finish line using a spoon held in the mouth.
It sounds easy until the marble decides to roll away.
Suddenly, everyone becomes extremely focused on something that looked very simple five minutes earlier.
🍺 The Bottle & Screw Challenge
Next came another test of patience, balance, and questionable body coordination.
A screw was attached to a thread around the participant’s waist, with the goal of maneuvering it into a bottle.
No hands.
Just movement, concentration, and a lot of laughter from everyone watching.
Let’s just say…
There were plenty of attempts before anyone could celebrate.
🍘 The Hanging Cracker Challenge
This one is probably familiar to anyone who has experienced an Indonesian Independence Day celebration.
A cracker hangs from a raffia string.
Your hands stay away.
Your mouth does all the work.
And the faster you finish it, the better.
It sounds straightforward until the cracker starts swinging around every time you try to bite it.
Which, naturally, makes everyone laugh even harder.
💪 And Finally… Tug of War!
After all the individual competitions, it was time for the ultimate team battle.
Two teams.
One rope.
One goal:
Pull harder than the other side.
No complicated rules.
No stopwatch.
Just teamwork.
And probably the loudest cheering of the entire morning.

From the first dance to the final tug of war, Independence Day 2026 at Lucid was a little chaotic, very competitive, and full of good memories.
Some people went home with coffee.
Some with a free meal.
Some with prizes.
And some…
still haven’t figured out how to stop that stopwatch at exactly 10 seconds. 😂
But everyone who joined became part of the celebration.
And perhaps that’s the best reward of all.
